R. Madhavan best known for his hit movies in the south turns 42 today.
The Indian actor, writer, film producer and television host is one of the few people in India who is able to achieve a pan-Indian appeal. He has appeared in films from seven different languages.
Born in Jamshedpur, Madhavan's family are not even closely associated with the film industry. Madhavan was chosen to represent India as its cultural embassador from Rajaram College in Kolhapur to Canada after his graduation in electronics. At 22, he was awarded the Maharashtra NCC Best Cadet and was sent to England.
Due do an age constraint he was rejected from the opportunity to join the Royal Army, the Navy and Air Force. He later took a course in public speaking which eventually helped him venture into the film industry.
Madhavan started his acting career with television guest appearances, including a role on the Zee TV prime-time opera 'Banegi Apni Baat'. His first film was Mani Ratnam's romantic flick 'Alaipayuthey', after which he soon developed the image of a romantic actor. He starred in movies like 'Minnale' and 'Dumm Dumm Dumm'. He also worked in 'Kannathil Muthamittal' playing the father of an adopted daughter and not to forget Linguswamy's action film, 'Run'.
Madhavan has received an award from the Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, two notable awards for Best Supporting Actor and he also received his first Filmfare Award for his intense potrayal of rogue in the film 'Aayatha Ezhuthu'.
R. Madhavan has been a brand embassador for many commercials. He is also an active supporter of PETA programme in India and has appeared in many events that have been organised for the group's promotion.
Madhavan, who has a great amount of recognition and nominations from other organisations has defintely come a long way.
